FOR PEOPLE WHO TRAVEL
And have a Gambling Problem
--------
Here are some ideas for people, like
truckers and salespersons, who travel a lot on their jobs. These ideas may also
be useful for retired people who travel a lot.
- Get literature from Gamblers
Anonymous and from the Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling (“A Chance for
Change”).
- Gamblers Anonymous –
www.gamblersanonymous.org
- The Florida Council on Compulsive
Gambling –
www.gamblinghelp.org or call 888.236-4848. In the web site click on
“About FCCG” and then “Reports and Publications” and you will be able to
read about and receive this series of self study books.
- Chat Rooms and interactive
opportunities
-
www.gamblingtherapy.org.uk. This site includes a forum and a counseling
option. It is based in the United Kingdom but has many American visitors.
-
www.gettingpastgambling.com – a site for sharing, finding support, and
strength. The address for their message board is:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/GettingPastGambling/messages.
- Until I get the URL correct, use the site for the Safe Harbor
Compulsive Gambling Hub. Do a search for this organization on your
browser. They have a posting board at:
www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/gb/twest1117 and an online chat room that
runs online GA style meetings at various times during the week.
-
www.gordonhouse.org.uk is a
treatment center in England that has an online chat room and other online
services.
- Information
-
www.ncpgambling.org. This is the site of the National Council on Problem
Gambling. In its “Resources” link, it has links to a very large list of
written and interactive resources.
- Other Strategies
- Find a way to restrict and
“safety net” funds so that they are more difficult to acquire or require
another person’s permission to receive.
- Getting a cellular phone contract
with unlimited minutes during those “parked and boring times.” This will
permit the gambler the means to connect with a long distance sponsor who is
willing to work in this fashion.
