Biographical SketchesCharles F. Vorkoper, M.S.S.W. (LMSW-ACP, LPC, LMFT) is a counselor in Private Practice in Dallas, Texas. He is a Certified Gambling Counselor and a Consultant for the National Council on Problem Gambling. He is served as clinical consultant to the Texas Council on Problem and Compulsive from 1992 to 2003. He trains mental health professionals for certification as Certified Gambling Counselors in several states. He is a frequent presenter at the Annual Conferences of the National Council on Problem Gambling. He has a background in treating suicidal person and the survivors of the suicide of others. He was Director of the Suicide Prevention Center of Dallas, a crisis hotline. He served as Chair of the Public Information Committee of the American Association of Suicidology (AAS) and is an active member of that organization. He has made frequent presentations at the national meetings of the AAS and conducted workshops on the subjects of suicide across the country. He has published chapters in two books on this subject. He is a member of the Task Force for Clinical Survivors of Suicide, developing strategies to serve helping professionals who are impacted by suicide. He serves as Co-Chair of the Texas Suicide Prevention Community Network, a state-wide committee representing Community Coalitions dedicated to suicide prevention. He is also Co-Chair of the Texas Suicide Prevention Partnership, a group of representative of existing state-wide organizations who have constituencies and a group of experts who have agreed to provide technical assistance to the member organizations. He serves as a mental health volunteer for the Red Cross Disaster Services in Dallas. He helped develop their crisis mental health response approach to major disaster in the Dallas after a Delta airplane crashed. He has been active as a group psychotherapist and is a Certified Group psychotherapist. He served as President of the Dallas Group Psychotherapy Society and has presented at the American Group Psychotherapy Association. He has trained professionals as group psychotherapists.
